We are excited to share that we are starting a Fall Parks Challenge!  Saying goodbye to the summer travel and adventure season isn’t easy.  As the promise of colder weather and shorter stretches of sunlight greets us, it’s easy to make the choice to stay inside and to prepare for our winter “hibernation routine”.

But what if we were intentional about mixing things up this fall?  What if we carved out time (just a few hours) to play?!?!

Enter #FallParksChallenge! 🙂

We’re doing it!  We made the decision to find FIVE parks near us that we haven’t visited before, spend some time in each one, and share that time with the Twitter world.

Here’s How YOU Can Participate Too

  1. Find FIVE parks near you that you haven’t visited before (or perhaps new trails that you haven’t explored)… think “Five for Fall”… you got this!
  2. Enjoy some time outside exploring these new places.  This is the play part!  We plan to hike, maybe we’ll even be able to get some fishing in (wishful thinking…?).
  3. Share your experiences on Twitter using the #FallParksChallenge hashtag.
  4. Explore away through December 21 – the first official day of Winter.  You have time, so get out there!
  5. Sign up to receive our free newsletter and to become part of the Park Trips and More community! >>Join our free email newsletter list here!<<

That’s it!  Easy peasy!

Why We’re Taking on a Fall Parks Challenge Now

Why are we taking on the #FallParksChallenge now?  Three things:

Get a head-start on good winter habits

We want to get out ahead of our normal winter habits.  Usually we start to slow down our pace a bit in the fall and winter.  This doesn’t have to be the case!  We want to be more intentional about getting outside and perhaps carry a bit of adventure into the winter as well.

Explore new places close to home

We love exploring new places… but for a place to be new, it doesn’t require a 500+ mile drive.  There are many beautiful places to explore in our own backyard (thanks Central Ohio) just waiting to be visited.  My guess is that the parks near you might be just as welcoming!  Since a longer road trip isn’t in the cards for us in the next few months, we know that doesn’t mean that exploring isn’t out of reach.

Make someday, today!

There is no time like the present… the present is a gift… Seriously though, we’ve driven past some places near us with the best of intentions of going back to visit and sometimes, those places stay on our “to visit” list.  For example, we’ve thought about visiting all of our Metro Parks and State Parks within a 60 mile radius for some time.  While we love them and have been to several of them, we still haven’t gotten to them all.  So why not make time to visit on purpose?  Make someday, today!
